I Am Going To Be....

On Thursday 31st October 2024, I had the pleasure of taking part in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham’s Aspire Virtual School Careers Networking Event, designed for children and young people in Care age 9 to 21 to hear from Care Leavers about how they have and are achieving their aspirations and also meet with industry professionals from various other sectors.

Sharing my journey of being placed in Care at age 9, being subject to Fixed Term Exclusions at Secondary School and at College to having run ins with the law, to having GSCE’s graded with C, E, F and some ungraded, to achieving A Levels in Law, English and Sociology and a Degree in Law, Professional Qualifications in the Financial Industry to now being a Social Entrepreneur of  The Transformed You, I encouraged the children and young people to believe and see that with the right support around them achieving their aspirations is indeed possible!

Sadly, the System is sometimes reluctant to believe we can achieve as they’re too focused on our behaviour, and then quick to speak words of doubt which can impact on our confidence and self-belief. But to hear the children and young people shout of loud (literally) that they are going to be Lawyers, Doctors, Actors, Actresses, Artists, Plumbers, Entrepreneurs and more, is evidence that we have a generation of care experienced children and young people who have aspirations of becoming……we just need to affirm them and show them how!
